The Westcoast 11.6 slide seat sculling rowboat flies across the water rowed by a single rower with a pair of ultra light carbon fiber sculling oars.

It nicely handles rowing in nasty chop, wind, waves, or boat wakes and conditions that are far too rough for a racing shell or open water shell. Tracking is positive due to the full-length keel.

Used as a personal gym at the cottage, or the yacht, it provides full body exercise while breathing fresh clean air. Doctors and health professionals recommend rowing because it’s a low impact, full body exercise using up to 90% of your muscles including both legs at once to power up the stroke. No stress on the knees while burning up to twice the calories as jogging. Great for stress relief, cardio, weight control, cross training, rehab and just plain enjoyment. The ergonomics of the rowing gear is close to a standard racing shell with standard 9’6” (288cm) sculling oars. We can supply Carbon Fiber Club Style Scull Oars These can added to your order delivered to you with your boat.

The Westcoast 11.6 has an “untucked” full transom rather than the “wineglass” shape of a Whitehall. The fuller hull shape adds buoyancy aft, making the boat suitable for carrying a heavier load, or a small motor such as the Torqeedo Electric Outboard. For use with an outboard motor add the factory optional Motor Pad to your order.

For fixed seat traditional rowing there is a choice of Spruce/Carbon Traditional Oars with Leather collars and pressure cast oarlocks or all Carbon Fiber Traditional Oars with plastic collars and offset oarlocks.

The hull is hand-laid fiberglass, impeccably finished inside and out. The woodwork is solid teak finished in hand-rubbed oil. Copper rivets and roves are used on the gunnel. The metal fittings are custom-cast bronze.

This boat can be parked on a dock, the deck of a yacht, or on a trailer in the garage. If the boat is going to be stored outside on a Boat Dolly, Boat Bunk or small boat trailer, we recommend adding a Sunbrella cover and Lexan Battens to your order to keep the boat pristine.

If tying up to a dock add a set of Tie-up Lines and Fenders to your order.

This boat is custom made by our master craftsmen in our shop in Victoria, BC Canada. It is a sculling rowboat built to last 100 years providing rowing or sculling, fitness and fun, for generations of rowers. It is available with a Factory Optional Solid Teak Floorboard or a fully-buoyant “Ocean Tender Floor” adding substantial reserve buoyancy to the boat. The forward storage locker enables gear such as small gas tanks, tackle boxes, or lifejackets to be left aboard, dry, and secure.

This Classic Whitehall Spirit® Westcoast 11.6 Slide Seat Sculling model, like all our models, is also a Traditional Fixed Seat Rowboat by simply swopping the rowing unit for the supplied fixed seat, with the option of being ordered as a Sailing Model with all three modes integrated into the same boat. It has been used extensively and is available as a Lifeguard Patrol Rowboat.
