The Whitehall Spirit® Westcoast 11.6 is known as the “Adult Sailing Dinghy” because theres room for one person seated aft plus one or two people forward and a picnic basket or the family dog forward.

This rowboat handles superbly under sail in both light airs or high winds. The fuller hull shape produces a lift effect when sailing hard on the wind keeping the boat dry and stable. Downwind, the Westcoast 11.6 scoots along and is a joy to be aboard. If the wind dies just drop sails and row home at 3 to 5 knots under oars. Some owners fit the boat with a small outboard motor for fishing. The Torqueedo Electric Outboard is a popular choice.

The Westcoast 11.6 is rigged with a 56’ mainsail and jib and a removable bowsprit. The complete rig sets up in minutes. The mast simply drops into its socket or stows within the boat. For jib handling there are optional gunnel mounted Jib Jammer Racks. See: Sailing Gear Page for more accessories.

The boat floats in only 6” (15cm) of water with the centerboard and rudder fully retracted. This boat can sail in quite shallow water and is very easy to land or launch on a beach.

This boat can be fitted with an optional sliding seat sculling unit.

If you require traditional oars we supply the best available. There is a choice of Spruce/Carbon Traditional Oars with Leather collars and pressure cast oarlocks.

This Classic Whitehall Spirit® Westcoast 11.6 comes with an impeccable lapstrake fiberglass hull, solid teak woodwork, copper riveted gunnels, custom cast bronze fittings, bilge drain/plug, and a bronze builder’s plaque.

The Westcoast 11.6 is right at home on the deck of a yacht, at the cottage, parked on a Dock Bunk or stored on a Boat Dolly or a small boat trailer in the garage. If the boat is stored outside, we recommend adding a Sunbrella cover and Lexan battens to keep it pristine. For tying up to a dock add a set of tie-up lines and fenders to your order.

There is a factory option of a Solid Teak Floor or an Ocean Tender Fully Buoyant Floor which adds extra reserve buoyancy to the boat. Simply pull the drain plug and the empty boat will self-bail. This boat is custom made by our master craftsmen in our shop in Victoria, BC. It’s a sailing rowboat built to last 100 years providing sailing and rowing pleasure for generations. It is CE certified and Canadian, and US Coast Guard approved. Built-in buoyancy makes it virtually unsinkable.
