This fall the people at Whitehall Reproductions contributed greatly to a dream of long standing. In my youth I was befriended by an old carpenter, retired on the shore of a small lake in central British Columbia. From his shop the fruition of a life's skill, fine vintage tools, and local materials, came rowboats with lines and qualities that would mark a man. Many years and long after his passing, information crossed my path that meshed with the long held images of boyhood, the singular and quiet beauty of the Whitehall.

Sometimes in life one is afforded an opportunity to chase a dream. Landlocked in the mountains and plains of Colorado, the residual feel of the oars stroke on calm still waters was long in memory. Now the opportunity for adult renewal, mature introspection, and evaluation of timeless qualities. The Whitehall's purity of line, elegance of function, and quiet grace completely transcend time. The attributes that were so correct times ago remain so today, with the added benefit of modern materials and technologies.

This boat, a prolonged luxury, was going to come from a far place. There was not going to be an opportunity to visit the builder. Expectations would have to be met at face value.In reviewing material from several designers, my choice was Whitehall Reproductions of Victoria, Canada.

The selection resulted from the quality of information provided (pamphlets, spec. sheets, excellent Web page) and the very direct responses from resident staff. Their demonstrated professionalism satisfied many concerns. All agreed features and terms were processed in a direct step by step fashion, leaving me only to count the days for delivery.

Finally the call from the shipping company, regarding a very large shipping crate. After unloading, the first thing that caught my eye was the quality of the shipping carton. The boat was completely encapsulated and buffered internally. It had arrived without so much as a fingerprint smudge.

With the unpacking complete, the boats simple beauty was almost startling. The quality of woodwork, finish, and detail are amazing. This is one of the few purchases I have made where the essence of the product has exceeded all expectations. Today product quality of this level is generally found only in private endeavors.

Bottom line, I am extremely pleased with this boat. It excels in both qualities of product and function. Without reservation I can recommend the fine people at Whitehall Reproductions to anyone in the need of an excellent rowing boat or to someone desirous of satisfying a cherished dream.
