A letter and pictures from Brenda and David Hardy, avid members of the Campbell River Tyee Club, who wrote after a fishing trip to the Westcoast of Vancouver Island with their Tyee Spirit 14. During the fishing season the Hardys often row for 6 to 8 hours in a day. Dear Harold and Marie,
Once again thank you for your quality craftsmanship and caring. It is a real treat to have our Tyee Spirit. It is a special event just to use her. There is something magical about her beauty and she handles the boat wakes and winds very well.
...The trip was fantastic. We made quite a stir. Many people stopped their power boats on the way by to have a good long look at the boat.
It was wonderful to hear the spontaneous and heartfelt "what a beautiful boat" from so many people - American and Canadian. We did manage to catch a few springs from the boat - following Tyee Club rules completely - and were the talk of the VHF radio at one point. It was really neat.
The morning we caught our two Chinook near Critter Cove/Friendly Cove we were quietly rowing and fishing with only one or two motor boats even remotely close to us.
The quiet was enhanced by an otter and the bald eagles...then the whine of an outboard engine working hard. We looked out of the bay and saw a small aluminum boat racing down Nootka Sound towards Friendly Cove and a voice screamed above the engine "See dear, we're not the smallest boat out here."
We had a great laugh and rowed on to catch our fish.
We've enclosed a picture of our catch along with another showing our boat on display for the Tyee Club on River's Day 1996 at the Quinsam River Fish Hatchery.
Thanks for your expertise.
Sincerely,
Brenda and Dave
