It’s May and in northern localities the oceans
rivers and lakes are all calling out to be enjoyed again. In the Baltic
we are told the ice left only a couple of weeks ago but people are
already out rowing and sailing.
In
North America the Whitehall truck and trailer is currently headed to
the Eastern States with a full load for destinations such as
Watersmeet, MI and Silver Bay, New York before delivering the final two
boats on the seven-boat truckload to customers in Steamboat Springs, CO
and Carson City, NV. The next truckload departs in early June.
We
have a good selection of boats in stock and there is still plenty of
time to place custom orders for a late spring or summer delivery. It’s
always a good idea to put a deposit down now if you need a specific
model by a certain date.
Here’s a few of the recent happenings and some new accessories available for this season.
European Certification Approved

It
was a cold and bright February morning when four volunteer Navy divers
and our own in-house diver Robin Johnson entered the waters of
Victoria Harbour and tested Whitehall’s complete line of boats in order
to comply with European certification requirements. In fact the divers
seemed to enjoy themselves as they capsized boats to fill them and
then climbed aboard to enable measuring the remaining freeboard when
full of freezing water and wet crew.
Other tests involved capsizing and
righting the boats with the sail rig up, which was surprisingly easy.
The tests were conducted under the watchful eyes of Micheal Volmer, an
inspector from the International Marine Certification Institute, based
in Belgium. All qualifications were met and now our European customers
can import Whitehall boats without risk of any legal hassles.
New Buit-in Batten Covers Last
year we finally solved a problem that was bothering ourselves and boat
owners for many years and that was a foolproof and easy way to support
a boat cover so that rain would not gather and pool in the sagging
cover.
A
line from the bow to the stern that supported the cover ( a ridgeline)
was among the best of the old solutions found. Then last year Harold
Aune and Serge Bolutenko perfected the battens-on-gunnel system which can be seen (and/or ordered) in the boat cover page of the Accessories section.
They
work well but now there’s a further refinement that is even easier and
quicker in any situation, particularly for boats that are hanging in
davits. The battens are built right into the Sunbrella fabric boat
covers. The battens themselves are made from unbreakable Lexan and
bowed to shape with an adjustable inside strap.
The upside is
that they are easier to use, can’t get lost or fall in the water and
the down side is because of the extra work, time and materials they
cost more. But like everything we do these built-in-batten boat covers
are built to last.
Whitehall Spirit Cap and Rowing Jacket
Whitehall Spirit hats look good on everyone and the rowing jacket sets
a pretty nice style statement as well. These items and more can be seen
in the clothing section under accessories on the website.
Lexan Waterproof Maintenance Kit
 A
great looking boat is a joy to behold. To help owners keep on top of
maintenance and cleaning all new boats are now delivered equipped with
a tough Lexan waterproof gear box. Inside is a quart of teak oil, foam
brushes and wiping rags for the teak woodwork plus boat soap and wax
for cleaning and polishing gel coat surfaces. Also in the box are a
spare drain plug, replacement fasteners and a square drive screwdriver.
For those who wish to purchase a kit, see our maintenance kits page.
As always, we are just a phone call or email away and look forward to hearing from you! |
