Fastenings used throughout our row boats are
either bronze, copper or stainless steel. The solid teak thwarts
(seats) are supported with brass knees to hull sides where needed.
Sculling boats feature bronze outriggers and solid teak support
systems. Seats are properly fitted with appropriate gap at hull
side. Whitehall Spirit sailing models feature a removable aft
thwart for additional leg room while sailing.
Model names are cast into the bronze bow
caps. Bronze bowcaps and transom corners protect these areas
and add traditional, old world charm.
Bow and stern eyes are
wood-backed and copper sleeved, vastly superior to protruding
bow eyes and extremely strong for towing purposes. Our row
boats can be hung on davits or boathouse rafters using bow
and stern eyes. Custom lift rings can also be installed.
Oarlock
sockets are manganese bronze, precision machined, and bolted
through the gunnel with bronze bolts to ensure that they never fail. These
row boats are built to last a lifetime.
Sailing models are fitted with custom
teak blocks manufactured in our wood shop. The sheave
pin is capped with a copper coin. The lines and running rigging
is a 3-strand polypropylene. It looks like the old style hemp
rope but stays soft and pliant. This line is excellent for splicing
and knot work.
The dagger board or centerboard
wells and mast support systems are constructed of solid fiberglass,
well reinforced and also integrally joined to the hull. Cast
bronze centerboards, optional on some models pivit to kick up
on impact. A cast bronze whale’s tail
and stainless cable raises or lowers the centerboard.
Bilge
drain plugs (optional) are installed in a specially thickened
and reinforced section of the row boat's hull.
A custom cast bronze fitting protects the transom corner while the solid teak knee adds massive strength , grace and beauty to this area of the hull.
Boom
jaws are a work of art with their leather tingles protecting
the mast from chafing.
Jiffy
reefing gear includes hand made parrel beads to maintain
the lug position on the mast of our sailing models.
Our
builder’s plaque, cast in bronze, carries the official hull
number. (A serial number is also cast into the transom gel.) Like
a limited edition print our row boats are designed to increase in value
and become heirlooms enjoyed for generations.
